The City invites the public to the final open house on the South 14th Street and Old Cheney Road safety and traffic flow improvement project Tuesday, May 22. The meeting is from 5 to 7 p.m. in the commons area of Southwest High School, 7001 S. 14th Street. Visitors may park in the main lot and use the front entrance. No formal presentations are planned.
The plan to build an elevated roundabout over a T-intersection is in the final design phase. Those attending the open house can review the concept, learn about construction phasing, view an animated demonstration of how traffic will flow through the intersection and provide feedback. City representatives and project consultants will be available to discuss ideas and answer questions.
The intersection currently handles nearly 38,000 cars daily, and traffic is projected to increase 55 percent to 59,000 cars by 2040. Utility relocation is expected to start in 2019, with street construction following in late 2019 or early 2020.
